Regents Park officially known as The Regents Park is one of the Royal Parks of London and it lies within north-west London, which is partly in the City of Westminster and partly in the London Borough of Camden. The Park itself is a grade 1 listed on the historic Park and Gardens of Great Britain.
In the middle ages, the land was part of the manor of Tyburn, which itself was owned by Barking Abbey. When Henry VIII dissolved all monasteries, he took control of the land and it has remained the property of the crown ever since apart from during a spell from 1649 to 1660 when it was used as a private hunting ground named as Marylebone Park.
When the Leases expired in 1811 The then Price Regent who would later become King George IV commissioned the Architect John Nash to create a new masterplan for the area. Nash’s idea was to have a palace for the price and a number of luxury detached villas for all his friends. once the idea had started the palace itself and most of the villas were dropped, although a number of the houses were built on the fringes of the grounds. The Park was originally opened to the public in 1835.
